How to Get Hotel Jobs in Hong Kong

By Robert Douglas

Hong Kong is not only a leading business hub, it is rapidly becoming a leisure capital as well - with the creation of Hong Kong land well under way and the Hong Kong Shopping Festival an annual draw for hundreds of thousands of visitors, Hong Kongs world famous hotels are already reaching maximum capacity in terms of visitor numbers.

What all this translates to for anyone interested in the hotel and tourism business is - opportunity! In this article we take a look at how to get hotel jobs in Hong Kong because not only are there positions available but Hong Kong is an incredibly exciting place to work in. The hotels available that are offering employment are among the best in the world and on top of this, the social side of life away from work in Hong Kong is most definitely worth experiencing.

The first thing you need to know is that if you are applying for a skilled or professional position you have to have the qualifications and experience to back up your application. This is because for your employer to be able to offer you a job and get you a work permit, s/he has to be able to prove to the authorities that you are competent and qualified in full for the job being advertised.

This is different to how it can be in Europe for example where employers can take a chance on an employee and even offer to train them up within the job they are offered. So - remember, you will need to prove skills, experience and qualifications so get everything you need in place before you begin applying for hotel jobs in Hong Kong.

The next consideration is the role that you would like to apply for - naturally youll be drawn to one area of the hotel, travel, tourism or maybe even catering industry based on your skills and what you like doing - but there are always various roles within one professional niche and this is no different in the hotel industry. So - are you looking for just a job that will pay you a tax free salary in Hong Kong and fund the social side of your life for a few years while youre young? Or are you looking to build a career and establish a strong professional reputation within the hotel industry in Hong Kong?

Have a think about who you are, what you could bring to a given job and then when youre certain you want a position that you see advertised, your application will likely stand out because you have it in the forefront of your mind that this is what you want to do AND you can categorically state to your employer how and why you will be an excellent asset to the hotel staff team!
